BelitongToday, Tanjungpandan – The High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, or ASEAN HLTF-ACV meeting was successfully held in Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, on March 19-20.
Eminent Persons and High-Level Representatives from ten ASEAN member states attended the meeting.
The ASEAN HLTF-ACV meeting was also attended by the ASEAN Secretary General and delegation from Timor-Leste as observer.
During the meeting, ASEAN members gathered to discuss the future vision of ASEAN. ASEAN centrality and unity, the effectiveness of institutions and work processes, and the strengthening of the ASEAN Secretariat are some of the elements that ASEAN members consider important to maintain and develop.
Delegates also gathered inputs from four entities. Namely, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights and the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity. Also, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the Economic Research Institution for ASEAN and East Asia.
In 2023, Indonesia together with Malaysia are Co-Chairs of the HLTF-ACV meetings.
The HLTF-ACV has been working for the past year to develop core elements of the ASEAN community vision post 2025. As well as, recommendations for strengthening ASEAN institutional capacity and effectiveness.
During the two-day deliberation in Belitung, ASEAN delegates intensively shared their views on ASEAN’s vision.
After 2025, ASEAN must be more ambitious, visionary, adaptive, strategic, and concise.
“ASEAN’s vision must be bold and unabashed, considering ASEAN will become the world’s 4th largest economy,” said Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya, as Indonesia’s High-Level Representative.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Triansyah Djani as Co-Chair of the ASEAN HLTF ACV Meeting, said ASEAN must make its people say:
“I am proud to be a citizen of ASEAN,” he concluded. (Ferdy)
