BelitongToday, Tanjungpandan – Belitung is again entrusted to host international agenda. This time is the “Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) American and European Market” meeting on November 23-25.
The international meeting discussing the environmentally friendly processing of Indonesian palm oil will be attended by 15 countries.
The Head of the Belitung Food Security and Agriculture Department, Destika Effenly told media crews that the trust to Belitung to be the host for this international level meeting was a matter of pride for the region.
“Alhamdulillah Belitung was appointed as the location for the ISPO meeting which would take took place on November 23-25,” he said to BelitongToday, Wednesday (11/16).
This meeting will be attended by 15 countries, both from Europe and America. So far, seven countries have confirmed their presence in Belitung to take part in this meeting.
The seven countries, said Destika, include Belgium, Norway, Chile, England, Mexico, Switzerland, and Czech.
Each of these countries will send ambassadors or representatives to attend this conference.
“Four countries will not attend because the time was close to the G20 Summit, but other countries are waiting for confirmation,” he said.
Destika added, the local government will be prepared to give the best reception for the ambassadors of the countries who will attend later.
This event will promote the potential of oil palm plantations in Belitung in addition to the tourism potential that Belitung already has and is known by foreign countries.
The ISPO participants are scheduled to arrive in Belitung on November 23 and the next day they will conduct a tour of the oil palm plantations in Belitung.
“Then return to Jakarta on November 25,” he explained.
ISPO is a meeting that will discuss the environmentally friendly and sustainable processing of Indonesian palm oil.
“Because Indonesian palm oil is often accused of not being environmentally friendly and coming from protected forest areas, causing global warming,” he explained.
Destika hoped that this meeting would bring benefit to Belitung Regency, especially to the community and local MSMEs.
“We will get indirect benefits such as they will eat and visit tourist attractions,” he explained (Nazriel).
