Welcoming the 2022 World Ocean Assessment, Belitung is Making Preparations

BelitongToday, Tanjungpandan – The Belitung Regency Government held a preparatory meeting ahead of the implementation of the World Ocean Assessment (WOA) on Thursday (11/17) morning.

The event which took place in the Belitung Regent’s Meeting Room was led directly by the Vice Regent of Belitung, Isyak Meirobie, attended by the Head of the Belitung Police, the Head of the Belitung Regency Tourism Department, the Heads of Departments within the Belitung Regency Government, and related elements to support the implementation of the WOA.

The WOA will be attended by representatives from 22 countries who are marine and maritime researchers.

The implementation of this WOA is an opportunity to be able to raise the name of Belitung.

“So, this is our real opportunity to raise the name of Belitung, as well as to be added into Belitung portfolio, which has run two international events in this year,” he explained.

WOA itself will be held for four days, from 12 to 15 December 2022 joined by 22 countries.

The series of activities will be a welcoming dinner, planting coral and releasing hatchlings, sunset photo spots, and farewell dinners.

Participants from 22 countries will be symbolically welcomed by regional officials within the Belitung Regency Government at H.AS Hanandjoeddin Airport. After that, they will be directed to a place to stay at the Sheraton Hotel in Tanjung Binga Village.

Isyak conveyed the things that needed to be prepared and carried out regarding the smooth implementation of the 2022 WOA, to the Head of the Belitung Regency Tourism Department, Annyta, as the person in charge of this activity.

Furthermore, the Heads of Departments, one by one began to submit their reports regarding their involvement with this WOA activity in order to support the smooth implementation.

Starting from the report of the Belitung Regency Fisheries Department regarding the provision of coral and hatchlings seeds, the Head of the Belitung Environmental Department regarding cleanliness during the implementation of the WOA, the Head of the Public Works Department which was also related to cleanliness and infrastructure, specifically on the provision of flagpoles at the Satam Roundabout for 22 countries.

Then the Head of the Belitung Education and Culture Department related to the readiness of the Maritime Museum which is an important aspect in holding this WOA activity.

Then reports from the Head of the General Affairs and Equipment Section of the Belitung Regency Government regarding the provision of accommodation, and representatives of the Belitung Transportation Department regarding accommodation and ensuring that street lights function properly.

These reports will be realized as soon as possible, through collaboration between the Belitung Regency Tourism Department and related departments, before the implementation of the WOA is held in December. (Mg1)
