BelitongToday, Tanjungpandan – Bulgarian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E Tanya Dimitrova, expressed her admiration for the beauty of Belitung Island after seeing various photos and hearing many positive stories. During her maiden visit to Belitung, Friday, 4 October 2024, Dimitrova received a warm welcome from local officials including Acting Belitung Regent, Mikron Antariksa.
During the meeting at the Belitung Regent Meeting Room, the local government conveyed a number of potentials, especially in the tourism and fisheries sectors. The meeting ended with an exchange of souvenirs between Acting Regent Mikron and Bulgarian Ambassador H.E Dimitrova.
“Indonesia is not only Bali, although Bali has a big name, Indonesia has more than that, including Belitung. I was very impressed to see the photos and hear directly from people who have been here. They said this place is amazing, unfortunately not many people know about it because it is a hidden gem,” she said during an interview after the meeting.
H.E Dimitrova is optimistic that Belitung will become better known in the future as more tourists explore the island. She also intends to promote the beauty of Belitung to Bulgarians so that they can also enjoy the charm of the island.
Before coming to Indonesia, H.E Dimitrova said she had spoken to a mayor in a city in Bulgaria. The mayor expressed a desire to establish a sister city relationship with Belitung.
In addition to discussing tourism opportunities, the Ambassador also revealed Bulgaria’s investment plans in the food and palm oil sectors in Indonesia. She explained that Belitung has great potential in the palm oil plantation sector that can be explored.
“This is just the first step, but from year to year we will see great potential for the development of this cooperation,” she added.
Next week, an investment forum will be held in Jakarta where opportunities for cooperation between Bulgarian and Indonesian investors will be presented. So she will also see what can be developed and done in Belitung.
This cooperation is expected to be an important first step in strengthening investment relations between the two countries, with Belitung as one of the main focuses. (red)
