BelitongToday, Manggar – In promoting culture of East Belitung and commemorating Batik’s Day, East Belitung’s Department of Labor, Cooperatives, and MSMEs (Disnakerkop-UMKM Beltim) held East Belitung’s Batik Fashion Show Competition, on Thursday (10/6) at Zahari MZ Auditorium, Manggar, East Belitung.
The Regent of East Belitung, Burhanudin gave his positive response towards this event. He believed that this event could conserve the motif of East Belitung’s Batik, such as Simpor Leaf, Kremunting Flower, and many more.
“On behalf of myself and the institution, I am very proud because this event will promote original East Belitung’s batik motifs to all over the world, which come from every village here,” Burhanudin said.
On this event, he also urged the people of East Belitung to wearing batik originally from the local, instead of wearing the branded one.
He added that this event could generate economic recovery in the era of the pandemic. They, the craftsmen, will be happy because their creations are sold and used in this event.
“We should be proud to wearing the local brand. Especially if it was made by your aunty, or any relatives,” he said.
In the same place, Head of Contest Organizer and also Head of East Belitung’s Department of Labor, Cooperatives, and MSMEs, Gustaf Pilandra said that this event would build pride from each contestant who wore East Belitung’s batik.
“We want people outside Belitong to know that we also have batik with various motifs here, and to encourage MSME craftsmen to increase their productivity,” Gustaf said.
The East Belitung Batik Fashion Show competition was attended by 105 contestants from the elementary category, 68 contestants from the junior-high school category, and 68 contestants from representatives from every service in the East Belitung Government. They competed to get a total prize of more than IDR 15 million. (admin)
