BelitongToday, Tanjungpandan – In commemoration of the 2022 World Clean-Up Day (WCD), the Belitung Regency Government together with a number of residents and communities held a clean-up activity.

Cleaning activities are divided into three routes, namely from the Air Merbau intersection, the red light at the AW intersection, and the Air Raya traffic light (Kebun Jeruk), with start and finish points at Nelayan Seafood Restaurant area, on Monday (9/26).

The head of Belitung Department of Environtment (Dinas Lingkungan Hidup/DLH), Yasa said, the purpose of the clean-up action was to mobilize communities in the world-cleaning action.

“To mobilize the community, especially school children, in cleaning the world. This is held not just in Belitung or Indonesia, but the whole world,” Yasa told BelitongToday.

According to Yasa, this activity is a routine activity even though there is no budget from either State or Regional Budget.

“This is purely a collaboration of all stakeholders and also corporate social responsibility (CSR) from the company,” he explained.

He continued, the implementation of the WDC also involved representatives from schoolchildren in Belitung district, environmental care communities, Adiwiyata schools, and other regional apparatus organizations (organisasi perangkat daerah/OPD).

“This makes an awareness that this activity is carried out every year even though it is not included in the budget,” he said.

In addition, Yasa explained that the collected waste will be separated between organic and non-organic waste.

“Later, the waste is sorted, then weighed. After that, we exchange it with seeds or compost,” said Yasa.

For this reason, he also hopes that cleanliness is not only the responsibility of the department but also provides the responsibility of all members of the community.

“Because cleanliness is our shared responsibility, not just the responsibility of the Environment Department,” Yasa continued.

Meanwhile, Belitung Regent Sahani Saleh appreciated that the activity was very good since it gave awareness to the public to maintain environmental cleanliness.

“We give this appreciation because it is related to environmental cleanliness,” he said.

He advised the public to realize that garbage is a common enemy.

Therefore, he wanted the community to keep the environment clean from waste.

“This garbage causes a lot of disasters such as disease, and if it is thrown carelessly into the river it can be polluted and have a bad impact on the environment,” he concluded. (*)
